60Ah 80NMC811/ 20LMFP Cell Nail Penetration
At HCM CO., LTD., we continue exploring how material innovation can enhance battery safety.
In a 60 Ah cell with a blended cathode of 80% NMC811 / 20% LMFP, a nail penetration test was performed to simulate an internal short circuit. The cell successfully passed without thermal runaway, showing that 𝗟𝗠𝗙𝗣 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺.
This also shows that LMFP blending is a practical strategy to achieve high-performance cells while maintaining material-level safety, a critical consideration for EVs and energy storage applications.
